Hello all,

We went from "pajerio.com" to "pajeroio.com" is this going to stays ? is Glen still looking after the forum or someone else ? who ? if it is

Is it possible for the people that do not know to direct the old address to the new one ?

Bob gave me some info but a little something in the forum to inform every one would be great.

As always....happy io....

It is possible - but...

The pajerio.com domain name was originally registered with a domain registrar called GoDaddy (www.godaddy.com) - as far as I can tell the registration is still valid, so the "problem" if we can call it that, lies at the website hosting provider end (www.parklogic.com).

If the person who "owns" the domain contacts Parklogic and asks them to point the DNS (domain name services) record to the ip address the server is currently at (103.27.32.7) it will work as it did before.

The challenge is going to be proving that you have the authority to request the change - it's a lot easier to pay to keep the record current (they will accept payment from anyone) than to fix it after it expires.

Forum

It will, to me, make more sense to keep the same address (as pajerio) because at this stage there is nothing that I could find on internet about "pajeroio". So basicaly no one, or very little, can find this new address.

Funny that Glen have not posted anything....I guess he may have move on....oh well :(

not possible

Hi Guys,

ok it played out like this:

- pajerio.com was set up by Glen years ago
- due to everyone's involvment and usage it was getting a lot of traffic
- pajerio's hosting and domain payments expired (things happen) once this was noticed they were unable to be paid through in time
- godaddy (scum bags) was lurking and picked it up the moment it expired to run ads on, ignoring the 30day grace period - capitalising on the traffic
- There was absolutly no ability to buy it back from godaddy without large amounts of $$$
- pajeroio.com was the closest anyone could get to a replacement domain
- Brisbane io owner Saul tried as hard as possible to rebuild on the old domain but could not be done. He managed to get a new domain, hosting and recompile the forum to get it going 99.99% intact which is a miracle.

(Thank you Saul!)

We're www.pajeroio.com from now on - google will take a while to adjust links however it will the more we post it around. Glen still has an admin role when he has time, as do others. We very nearly lost the entire forum but have achieved in brining it back albeit with a slightly different domain.

HI Claude,  Glen is still

HI Claude,

Glen is still an admin of the site, as Bob said I have stepped in to help out with hosting and admin.

Was not my first choice to migrate the domain - I spent an hour or so on the phone to both the old hosting company and go daddy trying to find out what happened with the domain.

I have done what I can to get the new address out there and in search results. So far I have submitted the new URL to google for caching and site listing as well as asked them to run a scan over the site so it starts to get logged for search records. I am by no means an expert in this. I can see the new URL is coming up if you search "pajero IO forums" as the 5th or 6th entry.

I have also gone to the main facebook groups that I know for the Pajero IO and put up posts about the updated URL and let everyone know we are back online.

I am still trying to wrap my head around the content system for this website. I am actually hoping to upgrade it to a new version so it's mobile friendly as well.

Feel free to shoot me a message if you have any issues with the site, or have any ideas on how to make it better :)

In the interim I have pinned this thread in the off topic channel so it's easier to find.

Ok, pity we have lost that original address but thanks for your work, Saul, to salvage most of it. I may have been able to help as I have very good conctact in this industry, but it sound that you have done the best of what could have been done. I did send an email earler to Glen but got no reply (I know that he is very busy).

So you are the new owner, and Glen is staying as an admin. All good.

As some of us already done in the past, If you have some cost to upgrade the system (or other expenses related to the forum), I am more than happy to help and participate sharing those costs.

I have seen a few changes in the member listing. What is the new role of  "super user" ? and the difference between "admin approved members " and " Member admins" ?

In the last 2 weeks we only had 16 members to login (all included). Since we have all the contact email address to the other, could we send an email to them, to inform them of the new address ?

Thanks again

Happy io

Thanks Claude.    Super user

Thanks Claude.

Super user is full admin equivalent. Member admins are day to day forum adminstrators (I think) and admin approved members are just members.

I will put together a mailing list and send it out.

In regards to upgrading.

The version is so old I can't seem to find a straight forward upgrade path, whilst still retaining all the key data (user logins, previous posts, topics etc).

I looked into drupal 8 (we are on 5) but it's nota straight forward data base copy and the current forum plugin is no longer kept up to date.

I am also looking into word press alternatives.

I will knock something up to send to users in the database to let them know it's moved.
