G'Day all.

I took the plunge late last year and drove over to Horsham to pick up my stock as a rock, never seen dirt, one owner 130,000km 5 door manual io.  I procrastinated for ages about do I go io, or do I go Suzuki?  Well the io won out and I'm so glad it did.  I love the little girl.

So far all I've done is get the windows tinted (looks great on the white over silver paint scheme), fitted a 63mm ECB nudge bar from ebay, fitted some 240 Blitz lightforce lights from gumtree and HID kits from ebay (there's a clasified pattern emerging here...lol), some Narva 100mm driving lights where the fog light cut outs are.  Fitted my HF radio in the centre console and my GME UHF in a custom made roof console.  Also got some personalised plates   PAJIO-4 (struggle to remember standard rego when booking in to caravan parks etc.)

This week I'll be buying (probably e bay again) some front and rear 30mm King springs, then off to the tyre shop for some black sunraysias and mud tyres (31's hopefully...if they fit), raise the spare wheel carrier to accomodate the bigger spare, then I'll make up some bash plates for the sump and transfer box and fit a towbar.

By far, my biggest challenge will be to fit a sub fuel tank of about 45-50 litres.  The plan is to get rid of the East/West rear muffler by having the exhaust exit on the LHS with a smaller muffler.  I do a fair few long hauls but I miss the range that my diesel company car had and the stock 55 litre tank is a bit inadequate I feel and I don't like the thought of carrying ULP on the roof or in the car.  Speaking of roof...may look at investing in a roof pod for the long holidays with wife and 3 kids.

Well...that's about it.  Hello all, thanks for the great forum and I hope to be able to contribute as I learn my way round my baby Paj.

Hey Fab,

Welcome to the party!

yeah! I reakon that's a pretty good buy

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/MITSUBISHI-PAJERO-IO-F-R-30mm-RAISED-COIL-KIN...

p.s I too agree, I have owned a Suzuki Sierra which was like driving a tank, A Holden Frontera, which was a good ride, but gutless, had the same size engine as the IO only that the Frontera was twice as big & heavy. The Pajero IO is by far my best SWB 4x4!

Yep...they're the ones.I

Yep...they're the ones.

I read up on the link you sent me regarding front Mazda springs in the rear etc.  That's pretty straight forward.

The part about using standard springs in struts with higher spring seats confused me.  Not sure if my 2/99 io already has the higher seat position meaning there would be no gain, or if it has the lower position.

Either way, buying the King Springs just sounds a hell of a lot easier....and at $300 landed on my door step for front and rear, I'm happy to go with that.

Incidently, most spring people I spoke to at Kings, Dobinsons, Web Suspension all sang the same tune....anything more than about 30-40mm would upset drive shaft/tailshaft angles to the point of hammering out the cv's and uni joints.....?????

A 30mm lift sounds like a safe option and one I'm happy with.

big fat muffler

Love that car too:)

I am going to follow very closely what you are going to do with that big fat muffler....I wanted to replace the lot with some extractors and a high flow exhaust, but using that space for something else is a great idea...yes

Happy io.

Hey Claud. It might be a

Hey Claud.

It might be a while before I get around to it, but it will get done.

Rather than buy an aftermarket one, I'm going to hunt through the "You Pull It" wreckers to see what will fit.  At first glance, commercial style vehicles usually have square-ish tanks which would be most suitable.  I'm even thinking of something like a Mighty Boy or Daihatsu Handi van.  Something along those lines should give an approximate 40-45 litre tank.

Ideally something from a Mitsi would be the way to go.  That way, there is a good chance that the fuel sender resistence values will be the same as the io meaning that through a toggle switch, you should in theory be able to get a fuel level reading of both tanks through the one standard gauge by flicking the switch from main to sub.  In fact, even the fuel warning light should function as normal on both tanks.

Filling should be a case of placing a "Y" piece in line on the standard (modified) filler neck.

It's not going to be easy....but that wouldn't be fun (or rewarding) if it was.  I'll be sure to post my progress once I get going.  From what I can tell, this has not been done on an io before.....never say never!!!

Cheers... Fab (io).

4 door options

The 4 door has the room in the back but the 2 door does not.
I've sized up the space under the drivers floor infront of the existing tank, easy access to the hole in the rail that the filer goes through, could probably even use the one filler neck. Filler access to the rear could be hard without cutting through the cab which would make things harder.

I ran a home installed sub tank in my lada, easiest option I found was a square marine tank and an electric fuel pump to manually transfer the fuel over to the main tank.

Good luck, lucky SA doesn.t require engineering for added tanks like qld

Thanks for the offer Anisaac.  Might just take you up on that offer.  Things have come to a stand still for the next two weeks.  Got some small fiddly stuff I want to tidy up before I attack the next big project.
