I am having a Pajero IO year 2000, engine 4G93, model: H76W LRUER, 1800CC, AUTOMATIC, PETROL. ( Malaysia - fully import from Japan ). NO ABS.

The grinding noise "clak, clak, clak" start come out from Left front wheel especially when I make a right hand turn at a T-junction.

Sometimes straight drive can hear some "loose part sound".

My local mechanic suspect is the wear & tear of the CV joint.

Due to unable to get new CV joint in local & I only manage to get used drive shaft (Left) including CV joint.

After we replace the used parts, the noise stil the SAME.

So, We suspect may be the replaced part is NOT GOOD. OR

Could you tell me what is the possible cause???

Is any body can tell me the exact part no for the my CV joint?

Information from www.adl.co.nz

CVJ MIT PAJERO IO ABS 25/54/29
 Part Number: 717929

Part the only available in local

CVJ MIT PAJERO IO  25/54/25

Part Number : Not Available

Is this local part suitable for my Pajero IO???

THANKS.

Used JDM parts can be difficult to locate

http://www.epcdata.ru/

You can visit the website above and enter your chassis number and then locate the part numbers you need.

I'd also be tempted to suggest you find a mechanic who knows what he's doing - defective CV joints produce a very distinctive clicking noise, and any mechanic worth his salt will recognise the noise when/if he hears it, and he's unlikely to hear it on an iO unless it's in 4WD and on full lock.  Other possible causes of a grinding noise would be the wheel bearings, possibly defective brakes - both of which the mechanic would have had to work on to replace the CV joint - and less likely a defective free wheel assembly, which I believe is on the left side of the differential.

front noise

The "dak...dak...dak;;;" like knocking noise is, for me, the CV joint. The grinding noise could be something else, could be that the bearing is not properly adjusted, I had a Subaru that if the bearing was just a little loose would make a sharp grinding noise........as always, I have been wrong before, ask my wife...

I am not sure for the part number, but Fordem should not be too far and he is very at that....

Except...

That a CV joint will only produce that dak..dak..dak.. noise, whilst on full lock and under power - which in 2WD it's not.

I've gone through quite a few front wheel drive cars (including one that used "double cardans" at the wheel end of the axle rather than the more conventional caged ball CV joint), and one of the things that puzzled me about 4WDs was that I'd never, EVER heard one make that distinctive clack, clack, clack in a turn - and the reason is that the CV joints aren't usually operating under load

BTW - as far as I'm aware these cars use a cartridge style bearing so there's no adjustment.

The thing that bothers me about this is this - I'm guessing the problem is most likely the wheel bearing - and any half competent mechanic should have figured that out when he started the disassembly to replace the drive shaft - jack the car up and whilst you're rotating the wheel to remove it, you'll feel the bearing grinding.

front bearing

The front bearing is holding with a big nuts on the end of the CV. My  Subaru was the same, and if that nuts is not 100% properly tight it used to make a type of grinding noise. ( close to a squeal... usually more at low speed while turning). This doesn't mean that this is his problem, but the noise it make is very specific and unique and not that common.

Missing a faulty bearing can happen but missing a noisy CV joint doesn't seems right, this is a very common noise. If your mechanics didn't pick it up you may have another problem.

I have heard some 4 wd with noisy CV...unfortunately they don't last for ever! and no, a worn CV doesn't  make noise only while turning, in some case, they can make some noise while driving straight. (not often, but it does happen, specially inner CV) That "loose part sound".could be just that too.
