Hi everybody, just thought i would post my new car on the forum for you to see. Got some underside rust, which i will be welding and making good with por-15 chassis paint, I will tidy the underside up. Keep eyes on my progress for my car

I just thought i would upload

I just thought i would upload the progress so far to my Pinin Elegance 1.8 MPI

 

Its been a lot of fun to say the least but we can now see the finishing line in sight.

 

Take a look so far on what has been done since i got my Pinin....

 

Front cross member was rusted

 

It needed some TLC..... So i started making it good again

Earily stage of prep work

Looking better now :)

Now the Skid plate can be added back on...

 

Now the brakes

 

 

 

Quick paint of the Drums, Calipers, New rotors and pads

 

Quick check of the wheel

It doesnt look bad at all, Will still need to sort out them locking wheel nuts with lemon juice, and some paint.

 

Now today we started to paint the underside with POR 15 paint, we used the degreaser, metal prep and the rust paint, It is not by any means finished, we also will paint with overcoat to make sure the rust stays away for good.

 

(That is por paint on the Transmission box), I was testing to see if the paint made a good job, it will be finished very soon

 

Please note, this is my first car, I have no prior skills on car mechanics.

 

Everything you see here i have learned from the internet, good amount of reasearch, also this forum..... This is why i have chosen to post my work here.

 

I hope to show the rest of the work as it evolves.

 

I hope you enjoy the progress of my Pinin, I stand by this car. Allthough there is the problems with rust making these cars scrap heaps, I will nto let my model go the same way. I am really loving the work and i would love to see what you lot think of the progress.

Looks good.  I had similar work to do with mine   The iO seems not to suffer as Pinins  in the UK do likely because of the salt we use in winter.  Mine had had nearly all the outriggers welded by the previous owners yet no protection and I decided to give the sills a treatment.

 

 

 

My cross member was a mess.

 

SO an early job was to clean it up

 

You may have seen my thread on the work.  It has been sold now, I gave up with the jobs it needed.

 

Work in progress on my just acquired delapidated  2003 Vivo 11 Junior in need of TLC    

Do it right, use Hammerite.

Why simpify when it is simpler to complicate.

I totally agree with you on this. The pinin is such a nice car. However the front cross members take such a beating. I knew that the work is worth it on this model. Such an amazing car to own. However all I see on eBay are wrecked models where the chassis has rotted through. I am glad you made an effort to keep yours alive. I am holding out on keeping this alive for a few years. The engines last a long time. However there is something about this car that rusts soo bad.
Let's see if the por 15 holds up to its name.

I am sure it is simply the winter salt (or seaside ownership) that creates the problem.  Shogun = UK and that equals salt.  I did the hard yards on my Pinin including halfshaft work, fuel filler pipe and loads of other stuff but it still needed new brake lines doing.  I gave up on it because it kept on making faults for me to correct and because I sourced a Pajero Junior.  Much older with shedloads less rust and very akin to a real Pajero.  The Pinin (iO) is a great ridebut I had a 1996 Rav4 before it which was a Jap import and was absolutely first class, absolutely no rust anywhere, with a 2L engine that was wickedly fast (way faster than the Pinin).  However, it was more of a maintenance headache for a DIYer like me and a transverse engine which I tend to hate so I sold it and got a Pinin - big mistake.

 

I Waxoyled the Pinin throughout and much much more but I felt like I was just delaying the imminent inevitable in terms of rust.  It was a lemon and a drama a day for me.  Still it was a nice ride and a nicely appointed car.  I always ask the question of sellers "Has there been any welding".  Never got a no answer.

 

It has all the things a DIY person would like as it was easy to manage but then so is my Junior.  It was just never ending.
