Hi,

Just got myself a 2002 Lwb ZR and fitted a set of 205r16's before testing her out on Bribie, went great. Very happy with the new toy. I have spent lots of time looking through the posts as a guest before taking the plunge, thanks to all for the great resources and info on the site!

Thanks

Thanks Guys,

I'm having lots of fun in the little IO, Went up to Noosa North Shore last weekend and drove up the beach to Rainbow Beach, the little beast went really wel. Just saving my pennies for a set of King Springs and some new struts, my current ones are on the way out, so might as well lift it at the same time! :-)

Just out of interest has anyone supercharged an IO before? A friend is heading over to NZ shortly and seems to think a Supercharger off a Corolla will fit, might need to do some more research, could be fun though

cheeky

brisbane io

before you go kings, what size/year io do you have?

suprchargers the best one to go for is the raptor one for a 4G93 lancer, will bolt on but you loose your AC.

extractors, hi flow cat and bigger exhaust give a load of extra power to an io, throw in a stage 2 cam and a piggyback ecu and bigger injectors and more again. much easier and cheaper.

Hi, thanks for the tips, do

Hi,

thanks for the tips, do you have any ideas where I can pick up the extractors etc? If they give good gains could be a good way to go to start with. My little machine already has 205K on it so not sure about the stage 2 cam and piggyback ECU just yet.

I was thinking about how to mount the Supercharger, nice to know I was on the right track with swapping out the aircon.

I did the Timing belt the other weekend, 6 hours from start to finish, my tradesman father had to weld up a tool to hold the harmonic balancer, worked well, we weren't quite up to the kick it with the starter motor trick :-)

Cheers!

extractors

ebay  - wildcat make them, so do redback.

raptor made the lancer kit - not sure if they still do.

ios

there are loads of io's once you start looking,

there is a green/silver 1.6L SWB in Darra with blacked out wheels that looks tough, and a white/silver 1.8 4 door that works in chep opposite me that I see often, and at least 5 on the mountain where I live.

There is a very nice looking Maroon and silver one up here, looks slightly lifted and very tidy.

Mine has just been deemed an economic write off after the storms, so will get a nice cheque and keep the car, it's a 4WD so was going to get some bumps and scratches anyway :-)

I will definitely look at the extractors.

I was going Kings/dobinsons springs as they are about $340 a set, I wouldn't have gotten away much cheaper with any other option. Probably do the front struts at the same time now.

On another note how did the IO go at Duck Creek? They are awesome on the beach, what about in serious 4WD territory?

duck creek

The Io nailed it!

if you are on facebook have a look at the group qld.pajero.com heaps of video's of my io smashing duck creek.

they are great off road but not fantastic with deep rutted muddy trails due to the little tyres and low ground clearance compared to a patrol etc

Bob Oz,   I saw your post

Bob Oz,

I saw your post about SUpercharging the IO, did you go down that path? Claude's IO build with the extractors, exhaust and Hi-Flow cat looks like a good option.

10% is a good gain

supercharger

it was a non-event.

basically I wasn't willing to loose A/C to get gains.

I've been looking more seriously at a 6A12 mivec 2.0L v6 conversion instead.
bellhousing is bolt-up, clutches compatiable, torque is +15% across the range and redline 2000rpm higher. and shitloads more power.

only problems are:

no side bolt ons for engine mounts
no easy water jacket at rear of engine
No easy tacho feed

for mine being a 2002 the legalities are grey as the FTO was last released late 2001.

Hi Bob, Sounds like a very

Hi Bob,

Sounds like a very cool option, a V6 IO!,

I had a quick look around the forums last night at Lancer 4G94 mods, twin cam conversions etc, but all are focused on top end gains.

Twin Cam conversions etc as focused on Top end

I am going to get a friend to pick up a Supercharger off of an 4GZE Toyota, they put out somethng like 130KW as standard running 7psi(??) in a 1.6litre.

He thinks it should be about $200NZ

Plumbing it in should be pretty simple, and was thinking of trying to get a blow off valve to let me run it about 3-5psi. I don't have flow meters etc to set it up to run higher or work out gearing properly.

Really I am just after a little bit extra to make the hills easier at 100!

SO for that reason I will start with the exhaust etc and see.

But I will have the SC in the shed to play with :-)

What about an electric AC compressor?

supercharger!!

Following this thread for potential super charger updates!!

My IO has the redback headers, 200cell cat and straight through to semi sports muff, sounds tough (at least I like it) and gave a VERY noticeable gain in power + efficiency and mines auto haha

I'm about to hit the 200k mark and am also looking at cam upgrades etc pending Bob does the R&D and prototype :p;)

Anyway welcome! Will see you out on the tracks if you are brissy way!!

Hi Simmo777,   Mine is an

Hi Simmo777,

Mine is an auto as well, I prefer them for the beach. I think i will start with what you have, the Extractors, hi-Flow Cat and bigger/freer flowing exhaust, if it gets me tha performance I want i won't bother bolting the charger on. My mate was over in NZ and was going to pick up the supercharger if there was a good one available. If that works will see, if not might be time to muck around a bit???? We'll see.

Big issue is it will mean no air con...unless I spend good money on an electric set up, whihc is what I was trying to avoid in the first place.

Look forward to seeing you around!

Gav
