Hi Everyone

I have browsed these forums before but never signed up, however today I needed the IO Manual and have some free time so it was a good time to sign in!

When I met my wife she had a Pajero Junior, which I thought was a little bit funny but after taking for a hoon down a beach which has very difficult 4 x 4 access I realised it was a great little wagon. When that car got written off in an accedent (I was driving but not my fault) we upgraded to the IO

We looked at the full sized Pajero but it was just to big and thirsty to be practical for us.

We needed a decent 4 x 4 to tow my 8.5m trimaran onto the soft sand/mud where we launch it, after some research the Pajero IO was a perfect choice.

Our wagon is a 2000 model (Jap import) with 110000 ks, (we have owned it now 3 years and done 55000ks) It was very difficult to find a low ks single tone (inside and outside), 4 door, TURBO model with the proper low ratio gear stick, spoiler and wheel cover! We spent 6 months looking NZ wide to find it.

We chose the TURBO model as it drove so much nicer than the 2L as the suspension is firmer and it has a lower ride height, and unfortunatly 99% of our driving in urban.

Our IO is currently unmodified however I am dead keen to put an external wastegate and boost gauge to get the turbo up to about 9psi, as factory it only runs about 5psi as far as I can tell.

Later in life I would love to turn our IO into Targa Racer, maybe even put a Evo engine in to give some punters a real shock...

Howdy

Welcome. Where in NZ are you? I'm on the Kapiti Coast with a '99 1.8l.

Turning an io into a Targa car would be something of a challenge - you could get the power OK but making it handle would need a lot of work. There's a very quick Hilux ute (1UZFE powered, many many mods) that does well on Tarmac rally events.
