IO - remove rear door handle

have a 1999 5dr pajero io. I'm wanting to remove the numberplate holder/handle bit on the back door. Im assuming you get to this by removing the inner door plastic trim. can someone confirm these are just held on by plugs? ive tried yanking it but it won't budge. any ideas?

 

any help much appreciated

Assuming you have no inner door handle ...

Slip a putty knife or something similar in from the bottom and slide it sideways until you hit a friction catch and then pry outwards and continue around the door - it may hook at the top, I don't recall - it's been awhile since I had mine off.

thank you very much. was able to get to the rear door handle via your method with some leverage.. was just a series of clips all around the inner plastic door trim.
