Did yours have "under floor" storage?
My iO has a sort of false floor in the back there - maybe 3~4" deep and divided into different compartments - this is over the actual trunk floor - does yours have it, and did you leave it in or take it out?
I have some odds & ends there - an extinguisher, 12V trouble light, jumper leads, tow strap - and still room for more, but it you anything in the trunk, you'd have to unpack to get to them, so it's not very convenient, still I don't too much stuff in the trunk most of the time.
I did take that storage thing out once to clean underneath it and I know there's a space, but I'm not certain how large it is and if it would be worth the trouble to put a tank, but it's definitely an idea at least worthy of a second look - I'm pretty certain I saw "flexi-tanks" in some catalogue, intended for use behind interior panelling - if I remember where I'll let you know.
Here you go - flexitank is actually the name of the company, and the website says they do custom tanks.
Really?
I'll take a few shots of mine in the morning and post them - like I say, there is a false floor covering a storage compartment, and the jack & tools go in a space below the storage compartment - what I don't recall is how big the space below the storage compartment is.
On second thoughts - the pictures might have to wait until after lunch - my wife doesn't have her Lancer, and she's taking the iO, so I'll probably have to wait until she gets back.
Edit.
I've put pictures on my under floor storage area in my thread in the Member's Rides area - http://www.pajerio.com/forum/fordems-io - but the area under the storage compartment is really very small - so - putting a tank under there is out of the question - however - I see no reason why a taller drawer system couldn't be built, so that a tank fits below the drawer(s) - let's say a tank in a full width space, two drawers vertically on the right, and a fridge on the left.
Space next to door
I had a look at this as well to make my own. One thing i saw was when you open the door completlely a second box wont fit flush against the plastic panel. When you open the drawer it will hit the door. How did u compensate for this? Did you make the right side box closest to the door smaller? Maybe a pic of the drawer fully pulled out with the door open will help
drawers
That looks very well done, can you easily remove the lot if you need to transport something big...
To asnwer the last question regarding the door being in the way, I think that there is only one drawer on the left. The right side is for the beers :)
Happy io...
P.S for Ktm
you write
"That looks really tidy Good work".
Then write "It should be assumed everything I say and do is incorrect ". So what is the truth :) Sorry I couldn't resist, bad joke, again! :)
Drawers
Yeah there is no drawer on the right its and open space with a bit of a lip to keep things in :) and yes verry easy to take out 6 bults to take the top off then 2 bults in the floor and done. the top bults into an angle line on the sides i will take a few pics later.
Ok that makes more sence. I
Ok that makes more sence. I got a couple of quotes just now on my drawe system will start making drawing and do final costing. Im gonna use poly carb board with alu to make it lighter. I seldom drive with back seats in (3 dr) due to boot space so my drawer system will start from behind my seats. My idea is to make a system that can take 4 plastic amo boxes that can be taken out. We do alot of camping so i wanna take the boxes out, pack them in the house and just place them back. Will start playing around with ideas
Lift
Going 225/75 tyres gives you an inch which makes a big difference, also i'll have to look it up but there was a place on or around port rd that could re-set coil springs higher. Keeps the ride similar and gives a little lift without stiffening the crap out of your suspension.
Arb regency know about it. Was something like ' federal spring works'
Made a new bash plate from
Made a new bash plate from 3mm steel turned out great! :)
still need that lift :S i think il just buy the kings springs and put them on. i have the old lower struts so might not max out like the higher ones. also does any one know if il need new shocks at the back if i lift it or will it be ok?
Cheers.
Bash plate
Again, looking very nice. What sort of weight do you think that plate is? I need to do one for mine but I am not sure to go for alu (lighter) or steel (heavier but less$$).
For the front spring, if you consider what has happen to Fab72, I think that they are ok for your car, but I am not 100% sure. I think that Fab72 is removing his, he might sell them? ask him...
For the rear, on my car I have about 12 cm of wheel drop, so 30mm lift shouldn't be a problem (should still have about 90mm drop). Again, I haven't done it on my car...yet!...my bigger tyres gave me about 30mm lift and while it doesn't sound much, it made a big difference.
Happy io

hey yeah it is a little on the heavy side but not bad i thought it would b worse. it cost me $40 money well spent i say :)
And yeah hopefully i can lift it like that :)
hey i cut it with a grinder,
hey i cut it with a grinder, took me ages to cut it nice and straight, but i made a cardboard template first then marked it all out. As for bending it i made the first fold myself on the work bench just using a metal edge and a big hammer but took ages and its way to much work so i got a sheel metal plase to fold it and is took him like 5 min so he didnt charge me :) hape that helps.
I have some King Springs you might like
Hey JK.
Great to see a fellow South Aussie. I was starting to get a wee bit lonely.
I was having a read of your build, more so for the bash plate build which I'm doing today. But I came across a mention that you have the standard lower pan struts and were looking for a lift.
Well look no further. I have a pair of raised King Springs (fronts only) that will fit straight in to your bus. Long story why they're not in mine and I'll explain it all if/when you come to pick the springs up, although it is all outlined in the suspension section of this forum under the title of "OK that sucks.Broke my strut".
In summary....they'll fit perfectly in an io with lower (original) strut perches, but not into one with higher perches.
I'm in Paradise near Campbelltown....give me a buzz on 0439 184 419 if you're still interested. Pop around for a coffee and we can talk "io". It's always more fun to make mistakes in pairs....it shares the blame .
P.S.....do you go to Pt Reiley often? My inlaws live in Wallaroo and I've been out there a few times. Not game enough to try those big ramp ups just yet, but the sand stuff is fun.
Fab.
Hey mate yeah its good there
Hey mate yeah its good there is another south ausie :P
Sorry but im looking to put bigger tyres on aswell as a lift so il be doing the same setup as you fingures x.
As for Pt Reily iv only been there the one time and managed to get up a few of those BIG ASS hills the othere will require some mods befor i get op them :P I was at robe and beachport this week just got back and that was an awesome trip the io is in its element in the sand :)
G'Day JK, Can't say I blame
G'Day JK,
Can't say I blame you either. The best thing I did to my io was the strut change. Not only did I get fresh struts but it also does open the door for more tyre options whilst maintaining great driveability and allowing the standard springs to articulate better than stiff ones.
I'm now shopping for new rims and tyres....that in itself is a whole new challenge.
Anyway...best of luck. You have my number so if you get stuck, need a hand, or just need some advice, feel free to call or text me.

hey send us a link if you could please :)

getting a 5th might be hard but call the import wreckers near grand junction and they often have stock wheels for sale single or there is a wrecker in brisbane that has them for $50ea
225/75-16 fit on no worries and just touch the rear bumper, brake calipers are also very close but clear ok and I've yet to have any rocks get stuck etc
good luck,
seller also has an FTO seat which could be a good mod for an IO - runners are totally different but seatbelt clip looks same
Nice job - are you going to
Nice job - are you going to move the jack & tools from under the floor?
