Who need's 4x4ing when a more car specific term could be used :)

My wife and I are currently thinking of going camping and 4x4ing over the long weekend, probably at Ngarkat Conservation Park.

We have never been there before, but from reports I've heard, it is only really super difficult if you do stupid things, like not letting your tires down, etc.

Other possible places we are considering are the Gammon Ranges (been there before) and the Gawler Ranges (although these are much further away from Adelaide than Ngarkat).

Grade: Easy-Medium (although not experienced myself)

When: June Long weekend (8-11/5/2012)

Where: Ngarkat Conservation Park or somewhere else.. if you are interested, make suggestions :)

Who: Open to all Io's and friends of Io's

Contact: Isaac (08) 7324 2381 - or just comment here

Details to come when they are worked out.

Who is keen/has ideas?

edit: although frolicking in the sand might not be the favourite idea of other Adelaide iO owners who have new MT tyres :)

.

Hope you get a group together and have a ball.

Pity I'm up here in Brisbane.

Thanks for the invitation,

Thanks for the invitation, but I can't make it on this occasion.

I live in Central Victoria, and I am planning to visit South Australia in September. I want to see the Flinders Ranges, and do Sky Trek. Before then I hope to get some lift, a UHF, and a better bash plate.

Enjoy yourself without me.

Mmmm...sounds interesting.

I did get asked to go up to Dangalli on the same weekend, but I've been there already.  Never been to Ngarkat though.

Let me get back to you on that one.

Other possible suggestions

Other possible suggestions for Adelaide based people are:

Saunders Gorge, Deep Creek Conservation Park, Morgan, Loveday, Kuitpo/Jupiter Creek, Burra Creek Gorge/Worlds End.....just saying.  :)

BTW..... I fall into that category of Adelaide based new M/T's so yeah...sand might be a bit tough unless we get some decent rain....lol.

Locations/ Info from Victoria?

Yeah, I was reffering to you when I made reference to M/T's. I like deep creek, but there isn't much 4x4ing there, and it is more of a day trip for me (living at Morphett Vale). I've been looking more into Ngarkat and that kind of region, there are some nice looking parks nearby in Victoria - Murray-Sunset and Big Desert. I haven't been to either though. Does anyone know anything about these parks (from first hand experience)?

M/Ts

I did fraser island on brand new M/T's. Had no problems even in the soft stuff. If you let them down to a sensible pressure they should be fine. I think when you read about M/T's digging down into sand they are talking about 2.5t + vehicles. My iO was light enough and had enough grunt to float up and over everything it came up against. Including a couple of deep boggy turn outs from a stationary start.

Size is not important; it's how you use it that matters!

If I ever want to get bogged in the sand, I'll make sure to put a few anvils in the boot.

Ahh.. how I love the weight of an iO.

I went to Dangalli

G'Day ANISAAC,

How was your weekend?  Did you get out at all?

I ended up going to Dangalli Conservation Park.  Was pretty dry but the early morning frosts helped to keep the dust down a bit.  I was really impressed at how well the io went.  It's the first time I've had it in heavily articulated situations, and what the thing lacks in grunt and clearance (over the big boys), it makes up for with great approach, departure and ramp over angles.

I followed a 100 series Cruiser that was running a 6 inch lift, 35 tyres and a rear locker through everything he went through.  There were a few jaws dragging on the ground I must say.

Next trip for us is up the Birdsville Track (that's a walk in the park)....but then into the Simpson (just a few dunes worth...day trip out from Birdsville).  Scheduled to go in the first week of the up and coming school holidays. (Starting 30th June).  I'd LOVE to do the Simpson crossing but fuel range or lack of, is a major factor.

Anyway...here's a pic of the weekend's activities.

Fab io.
