King Springs 30mm Front Coil Springs on johnicue's ride
Ok Guys,
Happy Australia Day!
King Springs arrived yesterday, In the process of installing them. One question? One coil is 5mm longer than the other, 355mm & 360mm.
Which goes on the right & which goes on the left? The dobson's had left & right stickers on them. & I have forgotten which side is longer, the drivers side or passenger side?
p.s they are thinner coil than the dobsons, 15.7mm dobsons 16.45mm
spring
Beautiful:) Much better suited than the way to heavy duty dobinson spring! And they are yellow! You have to be happy with that, and with the mazda spring it should work out very reasonable in price and work well. What did you do for the rear shocks, or going to do?
Happy io.
Very Very Happy! BA Springs
Very Very Happy!
BA Springs on the rear are great, & at $50 pair & $180 for King Springs in the front. $230 40mm Lift
Very good ride for a SWB, much better than the dobsons for sure!
Leart some more about the dobsons springs,
apart from being thicker 16.45mm coils, they have more coils as well, progressive springs" maybe better suited for serious comp" offroading.
KYB shocks all front & rear.
p.s purchased my kyb front struts & rear shocks from here: http://www.carpartsaustralia.com.au (From Victoria)
334405 KYB FRONT for $140 each
343408 KYB REAR for $88 each
including GST, CHEAPER than what a mate quoted me trade & only $20 to ship
rear shocks
It does look very nice:) well done...so what is the new measurement from the guard to the middle of the rim?
As most of us, I would like to lift my car as well, but later this year for me....Out of interest I have check the Kyb site and the 343408 is for the io but, from they site, it is for the standard height, so I am not sure that they are the best to suit the 40mm lifted io. Have you still got some drop left?
Happy io
tyres
Thanks, I have approx 795 mm (front), you must have the 225/75/16? How is the driving now? With 25 mm drop at the front I think that the strut extender might be a good option. I know that I am not totally for them, but the very small drop might give you some problem "??" who knows:)
Happy io.
Hi guys...awesome forum and
Hi guys...awesome forum and great to see there are other "crazy" people out there dedicated to their io's. Going full sized or mainstream is both boring and too conventional.
Anyway... I have a 1999 5 door io. I'm about to buy some of these King Springs also. The 30mm lift types. What I'm curious to know is what sized tyres will fit once the lift has taken place? I have read that people are running 31's, but they're quoting lifts of 50mm and above. I'm not prepared to make cut and shut suspension mods ($$$$ limited).
Could you please quote actual tyre sizes eg: 235/75/16 or what ever and tyre brands recommended for a decent middle of the range muddy.
Cheers.... Fab.
FYI.... mods so far are ECB nudge bar, Lightforce 240 Blitz with HID kits, 100mm Narva driving lights where the foggies used to be, HF radio in console, UHF in custom made roof console.
Planned is 30mm lifted springs, bash plates, black sunraysia style rims, muddies, redirect exhaust to exit on the LHS (get rid of the rear East/West muffler) fit sub tank where current muffler is at rear, and towbar.
Hey Fab, The biggest issue
Hey Fab,
I Totally agree! Being different from the rest of the pack is what makes us unique!
The biggest issue with fitting bigger tyres on the pajero io is clearing the bottom of the front struts.
From memory BFG MT KM2's 225/75/16 fit, (I have been quoted $315 each)
& Kuhmo KL71 225/75/16 (Have been quoted $240 each)
(overall tyre diametre is approx 750mm (29.5"). on both tyres.
Anything bigger may require strut mods or coil overs. A couple of guys here have these fitted to io's
No worries! Have a look
No worries!
Have a look at NZIO Front & Rear Lift (was 'Raised rear springs') Post, Beasty! That's how I want mine to look like!
bigger tyres
Hello Fab, and welcome.
Do a bit more reading before going ahead, there is a lot and it is, at first, a bit much:) but it will be the best thing to do. Regarding the fitting of bigger tyres, what as been found is that the io in Australia have at least 2 types of front strut. One have the lower spring plate 25 mm higher than the other, it is not 100% sure but it seem that only the 2002 model have this strut. There are a few different way for you to go around that, one is to replace the front strut but some other have gone different way. I have the lucky strut and have fitted the bfg km2 225/75/16 and they just fit, Nzio have the khumo but they are a bit fatter (yes same size) than the bfg and slightly touch but, I think, that he is still very happy (check with him!). Glen as some bigger tyres but had to modified the strut, check his "member ride", check them all:)
I am still learning as well...do some reading (the lot!) you will find some idea to help you, just like I have, and still do....Don't hesitate to ask! and show us your beast!
Happy io.
Based on the available documentation
As far as I'm aware, and this is based on documentation available primarily from KYB - it is the 98's & early 99's that use the strut with the lower spring pan - late 99's and all later years take the strut with the higher spring pan.
If any one has a 2000 or later vehicle has an OEM strut with the lower pan, I invite to photograph and measure it, and add the details, including the the OEM part number to the strut data thread - which I started in an attempt to clear up the confusion as to what strut is used with what vehicle.
The strut with the higher pan can apparently be fitted to the earlier vehicles, resulting in a lift and possibly "topping out" of the struts - this is also documented in the forum.
longer on the drivers side
Longer spring goes on the drivers side, compensating for either torque or driver's weight depending on which theory you want to believe.
