Knocking sound from rear suspension

Hi all,

After many (many!) months of waiting, I'm now finally shopping for an iO. Horray!

I drove my first (and as of now, only... there aren't many for sale down here in Tasweigia) last week and the used sales guy (in a rare moment of honestly uncommon to his species) pointed out a knocking sound from the rear of the car that only occured when turn left reasonably suddenly. He demonstrated it during the test drive, nothing super scary but definitely indicating something in need of attention at some point.

Sound like just a worn bushing simply in need of replacement? Or something perhaps more involved? The car only had 164,000km on the clock so I would have thought a vehicle of its ilk wouldn't be suffering from noise like that yet. Or is it something reasonably common on iOs?

Cheers, Ben.

honest salesman

Not all car salesman are bad!! at the exception of the diff, I don't think that there is too much that can be expensive to fix. It could be a sway bar bushes?? but it could be anything!! This said, it would be better to make sure about what it is before going ahead, I have seen cracked chassis making very light noise (not on io! and very rare!!) and be very expensive to repair....

I would ask the history of the car, if it did have the services done, timing belt replaced....check for oil leak, and undercarriage damages...any sign of repaired car accident...check that the transfer case is working well...may get an independent inspection.

One sale tactic is to mention one "no big deal" problem for the customer ... to hide another bigger problem....

Happy io
