Hey guys, noticed last night that my radiator has a crack in the top tank!

Its a single core radiator and id like to replace it with a 2core if i can.

It never gets warm other than when doing big drives on sand, then it starts to heat up as other people have also stated, I also plan to add a turbo at some stage so I might as well get the radiator for the job now.

Are the 2Ltr iOs also single core? i would imagine so. but thought id check..

Any one know a good place to get a radiator?

I'm not certain about your neck of the woods ...

Down here we just replace the top tank - once the rest of the radiator is in good shape - that was actually the first repair I did on my iO.  When I got it the top tank was cracked and the previous owner had tried to fix it with epoxy, I ground off the muck that was there and applied a fresh set, but the repair didn't hold for more than a few days, so I took it to a local guy who had done a brass radiator for one of my Suzukis, intending to have him build me a new one and he replaced the top tank and put the original back - it's been there about six months now.

Mine looks to be single core, (can't see dual anything!) it is around 15mm thick, 68 cm wide, and 50 cm high. I never had overheating pb, yet... In Canberra It used to have a shop that repaired them and could make them to suit any need (gosh that was a long time ago!) I could try to go with my car and ask them for you...

Happy io.

Thanks guys, It has not used

Thanks guys,

It has not used a drop off water since I posted, But im not going to wait until Im stuck somewhere to wish I fixed it.

I called Natrad today and as well as the std 16mm thick core they had a listing for 26mm thick (single) core for the Automatic version. So I have ordered one of those and will just leave the automatic lines unused, OR maybe plumb up a camp shower tank to it?

will let you know if it really is 26mm when i pick it up tomorrow.

.

Good idea using the auto connections to heat shower water, I have been looking at getting one of those heaters for the engine bay.  I rather not shower at all then have a cold shower.... haha.

Let us know how it goes.  How much was the radiator for the auto??

Too small

The auto trans cooling lines are too small for a shower :( need to splice into the heater circuit, the empty space near the passengers bonnet hinge would be a good place to mount one

new radiator needed

I have to replace the radiator on the 99, 1.8litre io, I have seen that one on ebay...http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/AFTER-MARKET-OEM-FITMENT-ALUMINUM-RADIATOR-MITSUBISH-PAJERO-IO-IQ-98-02-14086-/230874364302?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item35c12f398e

But it does seems very cheap, too good to be true ?, does anyone know them ? or better does anyone have a cheap one aside....for me.. lol  ?

I made an offer but the lowest I got was $142, I don't see the point of asking people to "make an offer" to save them close to nil !

Happy io

Looks good claud, any idea

Looks good claud, any idea how thick the core is?

I never got around to posting the pics of the radiator i ended up with..

turns out half the radiators listed as the thicker auto versions were just the thin manual versions with the auto plumping added, One make, the ironically the least desirable make, was the only one to actually have the thicker core. looks to have a tighter cooling fin arrangement aswell, I don't think ill ever have cooling issues with this one...

radiator

Good to hear from you....I would say that it is the 16 mm one, the add mentioned that it is an OEM fitting (narrower one). I bought it, I will let you know....

Wholly crap its glen!

Where did you get the thicker radiator from?  I wouldnt mind an upgrade myself,  I have had my fluid boil after some pretty aggressive sand hill climbs on a hot day.

Got it from the local Nadrat

Got it from the local Nadrat i think.

Went through a few suppliers before one finally came in at the advertised thicker size! Even after he made them measure it before they sent it out! haha , oh well, alls well that ends well. Ill grab the brand for you if i can, only one brand seemed to actually have the thicker auto core.
