Hi All

Just a quick hello as im new to the club.

I am a new owner of a 2002 5dr 2.0 GDI Pinin. I have already fit some alloys and chunky tyres but have about 2mm clearnce on front shock cup. After looking for a lifting kit for a couple of months i think a couple of you guys came up with a good cheap way of lifting by making some brackets (going to try this).

Does anybody know anything about the gear box bracket (cross member) is there any  mods for this, as every time i go off road it always bottoms out on this. I have had a good look through the forum and cant see anybody else with the same issue.

Thanks in advance and pics will be on soon.

.

Welcome to the forum,

What tyres size do you have ? What bar are you touching, the one at the rear of the gearbox or the one at the front where the engine and gearbox meet. The later one is usually the most at risk.  A small lift does help, for both. A good custom bash plate is highly helpful to protect the cross member.

HiTyres sizes are 225 70 16

Hi Tyres sizes are 225 70 16 on freelander alloys it's the space between front tyres and the spring cup on front suspension I have about 2 mm I know I could get round this with some 225 60or65 16 tyres but I got them cheap and there like brand new so I'm making them fit. The gear box mount/cross member I'm talking about is the bar that supports the gearbox/diff under chassis under the front seats. I'm on with getting a bash guard as we speak. I also had problems with the engine been choked it went into limp mode within 10 mins of buying it. It's only had 1 owner from new and done 71,000 miles he was a OAP who used it to tow his caravan so never really been thrashed. Disconnected battery and added injector cleaner to the fuel give it a good boot around for an hour or so and problem sorted been fine since but do keep adding the injector cleaner as I've read on every forum I've visited that this is a common issue.happy pininCross member (if the pic has worked)

225/70/16

Sorry the picture didn't work...

Keep the 225/70/16, the higher the profile the higher the car will be, the less the bar the touch the ground. I would advice to lift your car by 45/50 mm.

These car have two types of strut (in Australia at least) One have the spring cup 25 mm higher with a spring to match. These allow to fit 225/75/16 and give you extra lift. Lift by fitting bigger tyres is good as it does not change the angle of the CV joint but will change the handling of the car.

I wouldn't change the profile of this cross member as it does protect your transfer case (the bar is in front of it )

Check your local law regarding lift or any modification before going ahead.

Thanks Claude   im currently

Thanks Claude

im currently trying to source some new front shocks with the higger spring cup but finding it hard as theres not that many Pinnins (IO's) in breakers yards. i would like to double check what year and model the suspension with the higher spring cups are from as i can only seem to find parts on ebay and all miles away.

i think if ive read it right, that front springs off a Mazda 323 will fit rear on Pinnin and give it about 30mm lift. Is this correct ?

thanks and happy OI/ Pinnin laugh

KYB 334405

I don't think I would want "new" struts from the breaker's yard - google KYB 334405 UK and you should get several links to UK suppliers.  There's a strut data thread with part numbers, and model years.

yes!

With that kyb strut fit your old Springs and you will get a 25mm-30mm lift, Springs are nice and soft and still flex well.

Mazda 323/astina front coils in the back of your pinin will also give a soft lift of about 45mm or more but again Springs ate soft and give nice flex.
