Rear arm rubbers?

Hi guys, I am from South Africa and find the site very helpful, but I have a problem.

When going over minor uneven road surfaces my iO makes a metalish sound and the back end "jinks". I suspected the shocks and took it to a fitment centre to check it out. I replaced the shocks about 6 months ago. (Ome which the fitment centre installed for me).

No faults were found on the shocks. While the car was on the ramp the techie pulled the body down to make the shocks contract and expand again. We noticed movement (back and forth) in the "joint" of the arm that holds the rear axle. See pics. The one pic is of the arm and the second a close-up of the joint. There is a rubber inside the joint.

My questions:Are there suppose to be "play" (forward/backwards) in the joint?  Could this be the

Could this result in the back end jinks?

Torque Arm / Radius Rod Bush

Hi Jonny

I suspect that the torque arm has a steel and rubber bush (suspension bush). They generally last long but needs to be replaced once worn out.

If you can replace is yourself, just remember to use a water based soap to press it in as a oil based lubricant (grease) wont dry out and will cause the bush to turn inside the boss causing rapid wear.

Prices

Hi Jonny

I had mine checked out and also needs replacing. Got 186k km out of them so I'm pretty happy.

The price I got for all suspension bushes are as follows

- Front : R470.00

- Rear : R 1050.00

Labour is expensive @ R 2100 to change all the bushes front and back.

All in all you are looking at abour R 3600.00 exc VAT.

Cheers

The bushing is always been

The bushing is always been the reason! It needs to be replaced coz it takes all the punishments from the suspensions around the car. It becomes brittle brittle in some ways coz it is exposed to dirt, heat, and water.

Do you have the OME part numbers that were used?

OME doesn't list any shocks/struts for the Pajero iO - do you by any chance have the model numbers that were fitted?
