There's been a lot of discussion on front struts, but very little on rear shocks.

Based on my research there seem to be eight different OEM part numbers for the rear shocks, replaceable by a single KYB part (343480), useable on both 3dr & 5dr vehicles.

For those interested in perhaps "upgraded" shocks (not necessarily longer), Monroe offers an Adventure series 4x4 shock, p/n D7002 - these are "purpose" designed for a mix of on & off road use and feature heavier gauge steel bodies, thicker piston rods and increased oil capacity

The Monroe Adventure series are available locally and when last I checked the reseller had the D7002 in stock, at a very attractive price - I'm currently waiting on quotes from a KYB importer (a different one - the guy that was supposed to be getting front struts for me still does not have them some five months later), before deciding which way to go.

Hopefully I will have my suspension sorted by the end of June - allowing this new importer some time to actually source the struts & springs.

I picked these up today.

I picked up a pair of the Monroe D7002 shocks today - compressed length - 325mm, extended length - 520mm, I'll get the measurements and part numbers of the original shocks when I change them on the weekend.

Monroes

Very close to standard which is (from what the shock specialist told me, not my own measurements) 321 and 516. You're on standard ride height, right? Should be ideal. Are they designed for the io with the right mounts?

They should be ...

The D7002 are what Monroe specs for the iO so they should be - both ends are an "eye" fitting, however the top eye is considerably larger than the bottom eye - here's what they look like - and no - they are the same length.  The OEM shock (MR319750) has a narrow top eye & bush with a protruding sleeve, and the Monroe has a "full width" eye & bush

The new shocks make a heck of a difference to the ride, I can no longer feel the rear axle doing it's own thing behind me, and the "nose dive" on braking is about half what it used to, which surprised me.

With any luck I'll have the front shocks replaced within the next few weeks - I AM looking forward to that.

About rear shocks...

Don't know if I'm deviating the thread, but I'd like to share some research I've made for my rear shocks, I guess I'm having some kind of limitations of travel AND by smahing the coil spring chain/turns.... That is very well expected, since I made a "first try" expereince on my lift, nobody has made this way... Learning always... ;)

as I'm thinking about my 3" lift, I put some L200 shocks to compare.... data taken from online catalog from Monroe/Rancho and from online Shock Stores...

firts column: Model

second column: dimension OPEN

third column: dimension CLOSED

fourth column: mount tipe

Cheers!
