Throttle Position Sensor
OK as you know I am currently having fun and games with the idle on my motor.
As a side issue for today, I see the TPS (Throttle Position Sensor) looks like it can be fitted in slightly different positions on the throttle body as there are slots rather than bolt holes which allow some rotation. Once the TPS has been removed how do I know where it should be positioned at when refitted and if it is replaced in a position which is a few degrees out is that likely to cause fluctuating idle.
I believe it can be set electronically but my OBD 11 reader does not work on this Pinin so basically I need to position this by "ear".
TPS
Dude,
easy fix!!!
now i'm assuming correctly you have a MPI not a GDI motor - correct?
crack open the engine manual (13) and go to 13C96-13C97 for MPI TPS setting. The TPS is set by rocking it side to side (losten the screws a bit first) with throttle closed to set the base resistance.
TPS has a rectangular plug - pins looks like this: [(1) (3) (4) ] the base-line idle value is in the manual. Pin 1 to pin 3 varies with throttle opening from low/closed to high/open. pin 1 to 4 reads maximum value same as throttle wide open.
(i did it here when fitting a strut brace http://pajerio.com/forum/bobs-io#comment-17746)
0.8Kohms i'm pretty sure is what you are looking for from 1-3 when throttle sitting closed.
this site (http://www.auslancer.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=40&t=7391) also lists how to set the throttle stop with a feeler gauge if you've mucked around with it.
ALSO it may be an idle stepper motor however hopefully not - setting the TPS will take 5 mins, a new TPS from ebay will be about $20, a new idle stepper motor will be about $200 :(
Shucks

First........I can't even find a listing for a TPS for a Pinin and something like this is close to the Mitsubishi EO price. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/New-GENUINE-Mitsubishi-Pajero-i0-QA-1-8L-4G93-Throttle-Position-Sensor-TPS-/121003916317?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item1c2c653c1d. I think it has gone wrong rather than needing re-setting
Second, I booked a full diagnostic test only a few hours ago for the morning as I am not 100% sure what is causing the fluctuating idle and I am now getting pissed off with it (but I bet it is the TPS).
Third, I have not touched the idle screw so I assume it will still be OK.
Last, thanks for the advice..............I think a diagnostician should be able to spot the fault and set it right if it is doable.
Nothing is available here.
I wish, does not ship to the UK!!
Just for fun
Found a few around the world.

Better even if desperate

What I will say is thanks Bob for searchihg a few out. Knowing what to look for (Outlander ) helps a lot!
Only minutes...............really
This part is for sell between $20 to well over $200...big price range !! Amayama (avail from UK too) have it for around $100
I have a spare one.....$20 + freight
Happy io
Arghhhhhh, incredible.
Just two minutes ago literally I bought one from the US costing...............$20 and the same for postage.
If it is NAFF I'll come back to you.
I need to ask......................................Do you have the idle sensor?
Need your advice!
Hi HELIJOHN!
going through issues with our iO as well..finding this thread extremely useful, could you kindly confirm if this would work on our iO? ('99 GDI 1.8L 4G93), saw this on ebay, we are currently guessing after actual tests and ruling out of other possibilities, that this might be the problem...i checked the part on our iO the slots are slightly different (vs "cross" slot on round sectionas shown in this item photo), hope to get feedback as our iO has been down for more than a month now:(, thank you in advance! Note: iOs were not locally released here in the Philippines, really struggling for parts and trying to know some reliable sources with good prices that would ship overseas
, thank you, really struggling as iOs were not locally released here in the Philippines:(
I gave up on this eventually

I'm really sorry but I can't help - it has been a long time since I had mine and I have forgotten most of what I did with the TPS.
Also it was mainly actually because of this problem that I got rid of the car. I sold it for next to nothing, gave it away, to a dealer just to see the back of it.

my question here is, pin 1 being a ground? because currently i am having a issue where my vehicle is idling too high and it will not shift gears only at 6000 rpm, and i checked my TPS with my multimeter and all 3 wire have power on them so i am not sure if one is suppose to be a ground or what exactly because my plug layout is the same as [(1) (3) (4)], and the pin 3 is my signal as i have confirmed and without engine on i am getting 4.89 Volts and turning the throttle open changes these values higher which i am pretty sure i am suppose to be seeing less than a volt rather than almost 5 volts on signal wire, can anybody help me out here?
Idle sensor
OK guys, is this the right idle sensor do you think.

Fixed the idle prob's, got my multi meter and done the TPS and then took the idle valve thingy out of the spare throttle boby I have and changed all while the positive was disconnected and wamm all good apart from starting from cold it rev's at 2300 which is way too high until it warms up.
It's a match
OK
if i am right - you have a 1.8L MPI engine -
that makes you a H76W
TPS MD628074
idle solenoid MD628318 or MD628319
So the MD628318 is the one??

All the same
Hey Bob, what spray throttle body cleaner would be best to use, I have never used any before and what stuff do I use to also spray in the intake to clean the gunk from around the valves and stuff ?
I use an EGR cleaner - I bet it is all the same stuff really.
I add petrol additives for keeping jets and such clear of varnishing.
It would be nice to have a button on the dash that dispenses some STP into the air intake as I drive. Nitrous reborn. lol
The latest
idle solenoid MD628318 or MD628319
Well the TPS and IS both arrived at the same time in sparate boxes big enough to take half a dozen of each - such a waste on postage - so I decided to have a fit.
First on was the Idles sensor and a quick fire up..............oooops, idle shot you to an insane 3000rpm and stayed there. Could rev it up but not down.
Next the TPS - lost endless screws when taking the old TPS off - whacked the new one on, started it up and just the same, idle at 3000.
Then I took off the new IS and put the old one back but wait............the new one does not have a spring on it. I had a choice of two part numbers (see above) but could only get the **********318. Does this mean I need the *********319? So fired it up and the idle is back to sanity even if not perfect at around 1000rpm.
I have yet to try it on the road but it looks like the IS that I boughtis no good to me.
my question here is, pin 1

On the GDI ...
On the GDI engines, it can be adjusted using a DVM - I presume the same can be done on the MPI, but I don't have access to the details.
