Bash plate -
Big thanks to user Fab72 who had his bashplate professionally designed and drawn up.
I have sent this drawing to a local contact in Perth and have been quoted ~$60aud to get this made up in 3mm s/steel. I'm sure those of you wanting it can do the same. Will post up pictures when it's been made.
Will endeavor to update the links for as long as possible but if you are not able to download it please feel free to contact me - Robert@sonlife.org.au
Thanks again Fab72!
For pictures of Fab's one made up and installed - http://www.pajerio.com/forum/underbody-protection - DSCF6878.JPG
All the best !
EDIT This post and title have been modified/adjusted and the download link have been removed because it is no longer working.
EDIT Picture to the bash plate design in post 72 or close to as adding comment may change it's location....thanks to Fab72.....Happy io

Awesome stuff, Big thanks to both of you. Will call some places today and see what can be done.
One concern though is that the holes for the bolts are not on the diagrams, I dunno what grade S/S they would use to make it, but the stuff I have at work is a complete bitch to drill through....
Thanks for sharing guys
This is exactly what I need! I just had a quote from a waterjet cutter for NZ$100 to have one made in 3mm cor-ten steel, including local taxes - that's something like $80 aus/US - which seems pretty good. A quick question... is there any reason to think this design won't fit all io models (mine is an early '99, and Fab's looks like a late model)?

I am not 100% sure where the back of the plate bolts, but looks like that area that you have dropped by an inch in reguard to the rest of the car, therefor I wouldnt be surprised if yours has to be bent slightly lower down then made a little longer? Could be wrong.
Bash Plate bolting?
Hi from Cape Town South Africa
Have been reading al the info on bash plates and designs. I do have a question on how to fix it to the body.
On most foto's I can see where it is bolted to the front cross member just underneath the bumper as well as on the first part of the undercariage on both sides.
What I do not know and I cannot see it on any foto is where does it get bolted to the back as it goes down to suspension/ steering rack area?
I've been under the car a few times and cannot see any fixing point. Do you have to make one?
Can anyone please help with foto's or a good clear discription on this matter.
I have the 1999 5door IO
Thanks
Ettienne
bash plate bolting
Mine is bolted at the front to the tabs on the side on the front control rod mounts,
The bottom is bolted into the standard tapped holes that are directly under neath the center of the cross member, about 2" in from the control arm bushes on each side.
Bash plate bolting
Thank for that.
I was under the car last night to see if I can see any holes with thread in them inderneath. Unfortunately there are none for me to use.
What i can see is brackets that was welded to the cross member with holes in that i think was used to fasten the bash plate.
One of those brackets does not exist anymore and seem to be missing. Only the welding left behind. I think I will be going that route and redo the 2 brackets to witch I can then fasten my bash plate.
I'm thinking of using 3 or 4 mm of mildsteel sheeting or stainless steel. Al depends on the price
cheers

The bracket you are describing are not the bash plate fixation, but I think that you should be able to use them. Here is a pic of the hole that should have the thread. On the picture, my thumb show the bracket and my index show the hole that are used for holding the bash plate. You need a light to have a look as the thread in a few mm inside.
I hope this help.

Bash plate
Hi
Cool; i hope those holes are the same on my IO. Will be checking it out tonight when i get home. Will help me a lot. I do see the bracket under your thumb.
This was the bracket that I was refering to; to fix the bash plate to. Those brackets of mine does look very bad so i will probably still fix them anyway.
Thanks

Picked up the bash plate
It ended up at NZ$125 = $100 AUD/USD.

Looks nicely finished, I just hope it fits. What do you guys think I should do about finishing it. It's corten so could be left as is with a coat of surface rust, but not sure that's a good look - it would mean scratches blend in though. Otherwise paint? Chrome plate?
quote for bash plate
I want mine in 5 mm aluminium checker plate and I got quoted.....$303 +GST, this is pretty close to Singlecell quote. Something is not right, what have we done wrong??!! NOT FAIR..... I asked if it would be cheaper with metal and was told that the labor was most of the cost.....this price was without the "pajero io" in it.
Happy io...
P.S... Bob, if your contact can do it in the 5 mm aluminium checker plate, and if transport is not "silly"....I might be interested.
quote
I have done a bit of thinking, and may be the difference in price could be due to the fact that I only gave them a print out of the bash plate and not the DXF file. Because of that, they may have to program they equipment instead of entering the file....I will check with them....

Pricing
Claude, That will be why.
I searched for companies locally that have abrasive waterjet cutting equipment and both the onces I contacted gave me similar pricing - with the right gear they should be able to just load the DXF file and press go. One thing to be aware of for quoting - the PDF doesn't show the 'Pajero io' cutout so make sure they are aware of this. I ended up being charged an extra $25 over the initial quote because they hadn't looked at the DXF until they started.
By the way - it weighs in at 11Kgs (3mm steel)
Thanks Bob,
Thanks Bob,.... I have to say that your price is UNBEATABLE!! and VERY tempting but I really want mine with 5 mm "checked plate". I may have found someone to do them at a reasonable price, I will know in the next few days.
You, and I, thought that $303+gst was expensive....I went to a place to get another quote, and I was happy because they could used our file.....cold shower....$733+gst and this price is only if I give them the file.....
Happy io
.
You have any idea on the weight? I would hate to have it done and find out the freight is ridiculous.
holes/vents on bashplate good/bad?
the original bashplate doesnt have any holes in it but i was wondering isit beneficial to have them? im assuming any sort of air cooling the engine would be good but would is it negligble?
I plan to drive through sand/bush and wouldnt want any branches etc getting caught in it and opted to remove the "pajero io" wording so just wondering.
any thoughts?
so keen
keen as mustard when do you require it by. or should i pm you...
bash plate ORDER one extra buyer needed
bash plate ORDER, one extra buyer needed
The best I found was $210 each, this is the price if we buy 3 bash plates. This is an "online" order.
The plate are made in 5 mm aluminium checker plate (a bit more expensive than the standard aluminium plate), NO "pajero io" cut out. While this cut out does look great, I think that it does become a weak point in the bash plate. I can make the fixation hole, it will be easier to fit.
I may have found one buyer (to confirm in the next few days...) I need to found another buyer. Bob said that transport should be around $30, I don't think that he is too far out!
If you are interested....let me know.....$210 + $30 freight
Happy io
Edit, 10/10/2012 I though that someone would be interested.....For me to get this price, I need a third buyer....If it does help, I am happy to keep the freight at $15, if it is more, I will pay it. I cannot put the maker of these plates on hold for too long (a week or so?...)....So the most you will pay is $225 delivered.
You can contact me by email :
Happy io.
Edit 11/10/2012 I now have one confirmed buyer + one for me, only one bash plate left for $225 delivered.
Happy io
EditSORRY LAST PLATE IS NOW ON HOLD//ALL SOLD THANK YOU
